Are you researching teaching jobs abroad?
Then you know that finding the right school can be a challenge! With so much information available online, it can be difficult to sort through what’s reliable and what’s not.
While it would be ideal to visit a school in person before committing to a job, this isn’t always practical, especially if the school is located far away. You might find yourself facing the prospect of accepting a job offer without ever setting foot on campus. A school a thousand miles away might offer you a job. You may be expected to sign on the dotted line, sight unseen.
A fantastic resource to set your mind at ease
The Search Associates database contains up-to-date information entered by schools themselves each year. It details everything you need and want to know in order to make the right decision for your future. You can research teaching jobs abroad and schools in one place, with no time wasted.
Nick and I signed on at our first teaching job in Hong Kong having never been overseas before. There was very little in the way of information (pre-internet era). We had no idea how to choose between job offers. We decided to go to Hong Kong based on how many visitors we thought we might have! Paula
Since Paula and Nick joined Search Associates in 2011, they have visited hundreds of schools around the world. It’s rewarding to meet up with teachers they’ve placed. They find out what their experience has been and the pros and cons of working there.
If you are interested in watching some short clips of their visits to schools in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore, please have a look at their collection of international school videos here. Here’s an example
School videos
Schools also upload their own school videos to the Search Associates website for prospective candidates. One of the most entertaining videos they have seen is from Kings Academy Jordan – you may also enjoy this quick presentation!
Job Fair information
There is a great opportunity to research teaching jobs abroad during a job fair. International school recruiters showcase their schools and list their primary school teaching jobs, secondary school teaching jobs, and counselor jobs, along with their administrative roles.
There are around 800 schools registered with Search Associates. If you have questions about a registered school that NIck and Paula haven’t yet visited, they can ask one of the other associates to tell you more.
Together the Search Associates have a deep knowledge of international schools worldwide, their reputations, and their personnel over the past 30 years. They aim to help by providing information to help teachers decide on a job.
